The development of Vista Canyon’s park and community house is nearing completion. The 11-acre complex of oak trees, trails and recreational amenities is conveniently located next to Vista Canyon’s residential neighborhood. The park will feature two public tennis courts, a basketball court, a covered children’s play area and 10 miles of pedestrian and bike paths. The park will also be home to the Mitchell River House, a facility for education, activities, banquets and other celebrations. The park is the site of the Mitchell Family Adobe, the first home of pioneer Thomas Mitchell and his wife Martha and the first schoolhouse in the Santa Clarita Valley. Architect Jim Mickartz has been working with Vista Canyon and the City of Santa Clarita on an engaging traditional design for the Mitchell River House that serves as a fitting homage to the Old California architecture associated with much of this area’s history. The park is scheduled to open in late spring and the Mitchell River House plans on welcoming its first visitors in early autumn of this year.
