“Smart from the start!” Vista Canyon is the first new planned community in Los Angeles County to have a water recycling plant built on-site to meet all of the community’s non-potable water needs. In June, the Regional Water Quality Control Board issued a permit for the facility’s operation. The City of Santa Clarita could issue a building permit later this year. A part of Vista Canyon’s sustainably designed land use plan from the beginning, this innovative “water factory” will bring the latest in water-wise technologies to Vista Canyon.
With a capacity to ultimately produce close to 400,000 gallons of recycled water a day, the facility ensures that recycled water will be available for landscaping, irrigation, and other non-potable water uses throughout the community and eventually to other parts of Santa Clarita through Castaic Lake Water Agency’s recycled water system. As a result of the plant, the project will even make more water available on an annual basis than it uses.
