For most of the year, it may look dry, but water does in fact run through the Santa Clara River. The River travels through Santa Clarita Valley – including Vista Canyon – to Ventura County on its way to the Pacific Ocean. While most of the water moves underground, the River provides a home to a multitude of plant and animal life, and has played a significant role in the history and development of Santa Clarita Valley.
The story of the Santa Clara River and the early California families that homesteaded the property now part of Vista Canyon, are a significant part of Southern California’s rich history. Both will be integral in the design for an interpretive education and community meeting space we refer to as The River Education Center planned for Vista Canyon’s public park. Vista Canyon will work closely with the City and descendants of early homesteading families on the design of this special community space.
